Introducing - Blue Note Singers
A cosmopolitan jazz choir
Some background...
After 20 years of existence under the name of the Manhattan Jazz Choir, our choir, based in Huningue (France) has a new name. Indeed, in 2023 our name has become Blue Note Singers with a new choir director, a new pianist, and new singers to strengthen our ranks.
It’s not just Jazz...
We are a vocal jazz group. Our repertoire: the great American jazz standards, a bit of swing, latino, and pop...
So, what does the term ‘Blue Note’ stand for?
The blue note first appeared in the songs of African-American workers, expressing their pain, sorrow, and resilience in the face of oppression and injustice. It's an altered note used by jazz musicians and singers to add expression: it creates a tense, ambiguous mood, somewhere between sadness and joy. The blue note is a key part of the musical language of jazz!
The choir
The choir is made up of 23 talented amateur singers of all backgrounds and ages, divided into four sections (soprano, alto, tenor, bass), with harmonies ranging from 3 to 6 voices. At concerts, the choir is accompanied by fantastic musicians: bass guitar, drums, and piano. The atmosphere is always warm and friendly.
In case you want to join us...
We're currently on the lookout for some awesome male voices – both tenor and bass – to join our team! While it's not essential to have formal musical training, we're looking for a good ear, regular attendance at rehearsals, and someone who's committed and ready to put in the effort. We rehearse together, in English, every Tuesday evening from 8 pm to 10 pm in Huningue, and we would love you to join us!
